COMMUNITY BASED
Community based matches seek to provide a caring, meaningful adult in the life of a child through one-on-one mentoring. These matches benefit children ages 6 – 15 that may need a special adult in their lives other than parent or guardian. The volunteer applies, is screened (background checks, references, interviews, Empower sexual abuse training and home visits) and is matched with a child who has also been screened by the agency. Matches are made according to similar interests, the volunteer’s special abilities to work with that particular child and geographic location.
After the match is agreed upon by all parties, (parent/guardian, child and volunteer), the volunteer and child begin the relationship through weekly visits and/or outings. Agency caseworkers supervise the match and maintain contact with all parties to help assure match success.
