SITE-BASED Site-based mentoring is a more flexible program that allows mentors to visit the site at a time best for them. This allows for partnering with mentor-rich pools such as corporations, civic groups, churches and school groups in order to serve more children. This mentoring involves a visit by the volunteer to the site each week. Contact between the volunteer and child takes place only at the site and is organized and supervised by agency staff.
Site-based programs are geared toward at-risk children who would benefit from a mentor coming to visit the child at a particular site (schools, churches, community centers, etc.) The children are referred, parental permission obtained and screening takes place by the agency. Volunteers also go through a screening process of local background checks, reference checks, an interview, Empower sexual abuse training and mentoring training sessions. Matches are based on similar interests and any special circumstances that would help benefit the child.
